Sensible Development are a small, friendly, laid back, Brighton company who develop highly scalable online (timed) & live auction websites. We work with clients in North & South America, Africa, Australia and UK wide. We regularly have auctions of high value turnover. Precision and accuracy is key. Auctions run on our platform regularly exceed turnovers of £500k and beyond. We are seen as market leaders in the coffee sector, specialists in the industrial machinery and asset disposal sector and the financial and fundraising sectors.

Job Description:

We are looking for someone to help us improve the presentation of our platform to the users. We want to improve the quality of our front end and solve problems to help us take the user interfaces forward. We also want to make changes to our admin system to improve its usability. 


You will be in the thick of it, with the opportunity to contribute to and influence decision making. There is professional development offered in terms of your front-end programming skills and how the commercial side of the business influences and informs the technical side. As a keen technologist and problem solver, you will grow with us as the company grows.

About the technology we use
Our platform has been built upon a Java/Linux/MySQL Stack. Whist you won’t need to be a Java programmer some exposure will help. The following outlines the technology we use and the types of skills that we’d like you to be able to offer us. Some are core to the role; some are an indication of the types of things you will be working with and leaning. This is an opportunity to take your skills on further working within a vibrant team and learning from each pther as well as structured personal and professional development.

1. Core technology & Essential skills
We will expect you to have good:

• At least 1-2 years agency/industry experience or other relevant experience
• Javascript,
• HTML and CSS and SASS skills.
• jQuery (the auction app uses a fair bit of Ajax to deliver dynamic updates)
• Cross-browser and cross-platform development
• Experience debugging and testing across devices and browsers.

2. Nice to have some of

• Backbone
• AngularJS
• Bootstrap 4.0
• Json, Restful API
• Compass (http://compass-style.org/) for CSS. S
• Closure templates / Soy
• Ideally working experience with server-side scripting languages an advantage; PHP preferred
• Confident with using at least 1 modern open source CMS platforms (Wordpress, Drupal, etc)
• Experience with Git and Version Control Systems.
• Experience with authentication systems and modern build methods
• Familiarity of MVC Frameworks
