What we are looking for

We are looking for a Head of Network and Infrastructure to join our energetic and hard-working team based in Brighton. A key responsibility of the Head of Network and Infrastructure is the development, maintenance and administration of a high availability environment. Furthermore, the Head of Network and Infrastructure is responsible for transitioning technical operations from traditional administration and deployment management to infrastructure as an application that leverages automation/configuration management technologies.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily activity of the network and infrastructure team
  • Plan and assist in network infrastructure changes and upgrades together with Management and Technology Teams
  • Ensure the company network infrastructure is correctly monitored and regularly tested to uphold the company uptime target of 99.995%
  • Manage automated fallback/fail-over infrastructure and backups
  • Identify patterns and problem areas, and implement effective solutions to increase efficiency
  • Create a department strategic plan which complies with and enhances the company-wide strategic and business plan
  • Continuously reshape department best practices to provide the best network and product performance
  • Report regularly to Managing Director with completed on-budget and on-time projects and project outcomes
  • Oversee product and services deployment functions
  • Work closely with other departments to promote efficient company product delivery
  • Ensure all products and services have the appropriate public usability media and documentation through the use of the company support communication platforms
  • Occasional work after hours or weekends at our co‐location facility
  • Rotational after‐hours support with 24/7 on-call duty
  • Respond to alerts issued by our monitoring systems
  • Employee Relations/Management
  • Provide leadership to team members, including identifying opportunities for coaching and development, to maximise work output and work quality
  • Assist Management and Technology Teams in the Recruitment Process
  • Promote and enforce safety in the workplace
 
Skills Range:

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals
  • Understanding of RIPE, AS Numbers, BGP Routing and static routes.
  • Experience with Cisco / Juniper highly desirable
  • Experience with PRTG / MRTG / Cacti / Nagios network monitoring
  • Knowledge of Network and Software Security Best Practices & IPTables
  • Understanding of direct server return load balancing technologies such as HAProxy is desirable
  • Knowledge of proxmox, xenserver, ESXI or openstack
  • Strong understanding of Linux, preferably Debian / Ubuntu / CentOS distributions
  • Strong understanding of Ansible, Jenkins or yaml coding
  • Knowledge in a scripting language such as bash or python
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure or similar
  • An understanding of containerized environments such as docker
  • An understanding of UAC systems such as LDAP
  • Admin and tuning knowledge with databases such as MySQL, Galera, ElasticSearch & MongoDB
  • Familiarity with Git, Bash and Cron
  • Familiarity with traditional DC racks and power configurations
  • Ability to implement backup and recovery strategies
  • Experience with SNMP / OID libraries
