Bidlogix are looking for a Java Developer to join their small, multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will work within our small and highly motivated agile team to keep Bidlogix amongst the most successful live bidding platforms on the market. They will work alongside other team members helping to plan, design and implement cutting edge technology.

Based in Brighton’s “Old Town” just off the seafront in the city centre and the heart of Brighton’s tech community, Bidlogix is a small team of skilled developers creating industry-leading online, real-time auction and asset management software for both UK-based and international clients. Using an agile methodology the team works and adapts quickly to clients needs but always with a view to our long term goals and success.

A motivated candidate will have the support they need to develop their role within the team and also to be involved with the overall direction of the company through regular team retrospectives.

Job Description:

The role is highly technical and primarily Java development. The successful candidate will have a top notch grasp of Java, Spring, Hibernate and SQL and will mostly work within a service-oriented classic web application architecture.

That said, the role also requires flexibility and an open minded attitude toward software development. We are a small team keeping up with industry trends and currently moving toward a microservices architecture and single page web application API development. We are constantly looking at how new technology and trends can support the business goals.

The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team using agile methodologies, project tools such as JIRA and automated testing frameworks.

Skills Range:

Essential Skills

  • Exceptional knowledge of the Java language and the Spring framework
  • Strong background in developing large-scale web applications
  • Knowledge of Java application server software including JBoss/Wildfly
  • Experience using Git or other version control systems
  • An understanding of good system design and ability to discuss design issues intelligently
  • Demonstrable ability to quickly learn new skills and to keep up to date with technology, development frameworks and techniques
  • Ability to lead on and apply modern development practices such as automated testing, continuous integration and continuous deployment
  • Experience in managing cloud infrastructure with a variety of hosting providers
  • Experience with issue tracking using JIRA or other issue tracking software

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in microservice architecture
  • Knowledge and experience in cloud infrastructure tools and automation, especially AWS
  • An understanding of the principles of agile software development
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of single page web application and API development
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • An excellent understanding of standard web architecture
  • An understanding of CI automation tools such as Jenkins and Bitbucket Pipelines
  • Experience working with agile methodologies such as Scrum
  • An understanding of Jenkins automation tool
