Junior to Mid-level Developer in top-flight motorsport industry - Bspoke Global Networks

Brighton and Hove

Closing date: 08/03/2018

BGN runs networks and services for motorsport, working with some of the most motivated and fast moving customers in the world. Our media platform squeezes the most out of cloud technologies, structures video and data services, and integrates with our customers’ race-defining strategy systems.

Working with teams at the front of the pack for over ten years, it’s fast paced, hard work and a heap of fun.

And we’re only just getting started

Job Description:

Working primarily with Javascript, you'll get great training and work with a small, expert and friendly team living in the ultimate tech industry.

We're looking for a junior to mid-level developer who sees a challenge, sees something they don't know, sees everything that's in the way ... and think ... game on!

A developer who has buried themselves in code, know they're on the way, and know their next move is the game changer. This is that move:

  • Developing and supporting software services in an optimised distributed environment, which includes cloud-based technologies.
  • Supporting existing clients and our own internal teams.
  • Working in a small, highly skilled and dedicated team of developers, network engineers and other specialists.

We need your ideas, enthusiasm and know-how so we can continue to shake things up, build new services, and take the next step.

We can promise that the challenges never stop. With customers as demanding as ours, your job is to listen, develop, test and ship software that scales. Then repeat. We believe in the power of technology and we need the kind of people who spot opportunities - with systems, frameworks, models, languages – and take them.

As important as the technologies we build is the team we create. Racing can be intense - whether you’re at track, in the office, or building the next tool to an unmovable deadline. Therefore we take personal development and downtime equally seriously. There’s plenty of support, training, time off, mentoring, table tennis and pinball.

And every now and again, you might even find us in the pub for burgers, banter and beers.

As you can imagine, there are opportunities to travel to and work behind the curtain at some loud international events (and some rather anonymous business parks). You'll get to hang out in some amazing places and really understand what it means to have a great team around you.

Skills Range:

We'd love you to have at least 1+ years on-the-job experience or equivalent demonstrable open source / hobbyist project experience of:

  • Node.js and associated server-side Javascript libraries and architecture patterns
  • NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB
  • Linux system administration, particularly for deployment, log and resource usage analysis, etc

In our dreams, you'd also have on-the-job experience and knowledge of:

  • At least one other server-based programming language, particularly Python or Ruby
  • HTML, CSS and client-side Javascript
  • Using Git in an active environment
  • Experience using the Test/Behaviour Driven Development approach
  • Video/audio streaming protocols (HLS, WebRTC, etc.) and player technologies such as JWPlayer, etc.
  • Deploying and supporting software, using tools and approaches such as Continuous Integration, Docker
  • Amazon Web Services, particularly EC2, Cloud Formation, VPCs etc.
  • Architecture automation using tools like Ansible, Puppet, etc.
  • Java software, including build and deployment.
  • Message bus / queuing systems, particularly Apache Kafka / Redis.

Person Specification:

You should be keen to gain experience building and supporting high-end production systems for some of the world's most advanced customers.

We value curiosity, creativity and dedication: curiosity to find new routes, creativity to improve our tools, and dedication to deliver the best quality work for our customers every time when the pressure is on.

In this kind of environment, the ability to manage your own time and workload is essential.
