Job Description:

Job Title: Linux Systems Administrator
Function: Technology Infrastructure
Reports to: Head of Network and Infrastructure
Location: Brighton, United Kingdom
Type: Full Time

We are looking for a Linux Systems Administrator to join our energetic and hard-working team based in Brighton. The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring the infrastructure. You will also need to collaborate with other team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes. You will become an integral part of the team, making every problem of the platform a problem of your own, and solving them accordingly.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Help tune performance and ensure high availability of infrastructure
  • Design and develop infrastructure monitoring and reporting tools
  • Develop and maintain configuration management solutions
  • Develop test automation frameworks in collaboration with rest of the team
  • Create tools to help teams make the most out of the available infrastructure
  • Manage stock and inventory of all business infrastructure and operational requirements
  • Ensure the company network infrastructure is correctly monitored and regularly tested to uphold the company uptime target of 99.995%
  • Plan and assist in network infrastructure changes and upgrades together with Management and Technology Teams
  • Ensure all products and services have the appropriate public usability media and documentation through the use of the company support communication platforms
  • Occasional work after hours or weekends at our co‐location facility
  • Rotational after‐hours support with 24/7 on call duty
  • Respond to alerts issued by our monitoring systems
 
Skills Range:

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, servers and switches
  • Understanding of RIPE, AS Numbers, BGP Routing and static routes highly desirable
  • Experience with Cisco / Juniper highly desirable
  • Experience with PRTG / MRTG / Cacti / Nagios network monitoring
  • Knowledge of Network and Software Security Best Practices & IPTables
  • Knowledge of virtualized environments such as proxmox, xenserver, ESXI or openstack
  • Strong understanding of Linux, preferably Debian / Ubuntu / CentOS distributions
  • Strong understanding of Ansible, Jenkins or yaml coding
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of Linux scripting languages such a Bash and Python
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure or similar
  • Knowledge of UAC systems such as LDAP
  • Admin and tuning knowledge with databases such as MySQL, Galera, ElasticSearch & MongoDB
  • Familiarity with Git Bash and Cron
  • Familiarity with traditional DC racks and power configurations
  • Ability to implement backup and recovery strategies
  • Experience with SNMP / OID libraries
  • Experience in managing file systems with FTP, SFTP, SCP servers and protocols
  • An understanding of geo based technologies such as MaxMind.
  • Experience with SSL certificates and associated web and email technologies
