Job Description:

Main tasks

  • HR – Managing the online HR system for the company. Maintaining the personnel files and employee paperwork.
  • Stationery and office supplies – Purchasing making sure the office is always fully stocked with all consumables.
  • First contact for the business, answering calls & greeting visitors, making great first impressions..
  • Organise company meetings, social events and take an active role in our culture events.
  • Health and Safety – Managing Health & Safety compliance through our H & S management system
  • Handling expenses, invoices, payroll queries and petty cash.
  • Building great relationships and negotiating rates with our suppliers.
  • Cost saving – Keeping costs low where possible. Negotiating for better rates whilst maintaining quality.
Skills Range:

  • A professional, confident, personable, articulate manner. You need to be highly organised, proactive and efficient .
  • Excellent administration and time management skills to maintain workload and paperwork and strong attention to detail is essential.
  • A high level of numeracy with excellent computer literacy
  • Previous experience of working in administration environments, ideally as a PA or office manager.

Desirable (some or all of these):

  • An interest in psychology or market research
  • Experience in health and safety management
Person Specification:

You must have the ability to think on your feet and problem solve under pressure to ensure all deadlines are met. 


A positive attitute is essential.

The job is 30 - 37.5 hours per week Mon-Fri although we are flexible with working times and you will not work evenings or weekends! We are based at the Sussex Innovation Centre, on campus at The University of Sussex, Brighton.
