Sussex Innovation is a business incubation network, supporting entrepreneurs, start-ups and scale-ups across the South East from our Centres at the University of Sussex, East Croydon and our new Centre openning in Brighton this year. Job Description:

The Sussex Innovation Centre is looking for a Project Co-ordinator to join our specialist business support team. This role would appeal to someone motivated by the challenge of supporting the commercial development of new and sometimes disruptive products and services from initial conception through to market. With Centres based at the University of Sussex in Falmer, East Croydon and Brighton, you will be part of a wider team that offer expert advice, mentoring, workshops and practical tools to foster and stimulate innovation and growth.

 
Skills Range:

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with some experience in project/product management, and an interest in working with a wide variety of technology sectors and markets. The role will predominantly support technology development projects in partnership with the university of Sussex, overseeing the full project lifecycle and working closely with academic staff to understand the opportunity and potential commercial value in taking their technology to market.

You will support projects from the early ideas stage, identifying the right market for the technology, and throughout the full project lifecycle, acting as a liaison between the Innovations Centre, the academic client and the university funding body. You will also support with insight and market research to inform project direction and future business model so experience in these areas would be an advantage.

Key responsibilities
• Working closely with academics from the university to understand the market opportunity and potential positioning for a new product or service
• Developing a clear plan and timeline for projects and producing proposal documents to convey the opportunity to the university funding panel
• Updating on project progress, ensuring project elements are on track, running to schedule and using project reporting documents and project management software
• Liaising with the wider Innovation Centre support team to provide specific support resource for projects
• Oversee and support junior team members to deliver individual research projects
• Training junior team members in key skills and database resources
• Project planning and resourcing
• Development of expertise in the use of platforms for market insight, such as Beauhurst and Frost & Sullivan

 
Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with new technologies, identifying valuable new opportunities within a diverse range of markets, and helping to guide them towards full commercialisation. We are looking for someone who also wants to engage with the wider Sussex Innovation community of high-growth innovative businesses, are looking to expand their experience and skillsets, and who will bring their energy and enthusiasm to the team.

• An interest in start-ups and new technologies
• Analytical mind and curiosity about new, innovative products and services
• Experience in customer insight and market research
• Experience or keen interest in agile project management/working with agile teams
• Diligent with strong organisational skills and great attention to detail
• Great interpersonal skills, and the ability to help develop others’ skills and work closely with our Catalyst Team members to deliver some projects. A team player.
• An interest in lean start-up and agile methodologies and new product development
• Experience conducting desk-based research and customer interviews
• Experience writing basic project plans and proposals
• Strong communication skills
