Join us for our first Members Meetup of 2015! - Wired Sussex Members' Meetup, 21st April, Osho Social.
2015 is well underway and that means it’s time for a big, quarterly Members’ Meetup!

If you haven't been before, the event offers a great opportunity to connect with others working in the digital sector; on average we see well over 100 members in attendance! The next meetup is happening on the 21st April and seeing as it’s a new year, we’re trying out a new venue right on the seafront at Osho Social.

So, why not come along and share your latest news, learn about potential joint working opportunities or just to have a chat (and hopefully soak up some spring time sunshine!) with other like-minded folk - It's all pretty informal!

The event is free to our members, including all employees of member companies, but you will need to register here to secure your place.

*Not sure if your company is a member? Just search our online directory or get in touch.

The Joys of Networking
With our next meetup fast approaching, we thought it a good opportunity to share some of the secrets to getting the most out of networking events….

Brighton Digital Catapult Centre: The News
Last month Coast to Capital LEP and the National Catapult Organisation signed the agreement to open the Digital Catapult Centre Brighton. The centre will be an R+D lab where SMEs, start-ups, large corporates, universities and others can collaborate on innovative digital projects.

The Brighton centre will focus specifically on projects that encourage innovation and value from real-time, location-based data – known as the ‘Internet of Place’. You can find out more about the project here.

Brighton Digital Catapult Centre: getting involved
In the coming weeks, there will be a season of events for our members and others to understand more about how the Brighton Catapult Centre might help them.

Kicking that off, we have an event with American Express on 22nd April. Amex Chief Technology Officer, Nik Sathe, will talk about how they are developing a technology-driven shift to their business strategy and how local digital businesses can get involved with that through our Catapult. More details on the event here.

If you’d like to be kept in the loop about Brighton Digital Catapult activities, you can sign up for the newsletters here.

Fancy an evening of great food & company?
Every quarter we invite 10 MDs and CEOs of Wired Sussex member companies to wine and dine with peers, and openly discuss their businesses and the opportunities and challenges of the sector locally. It’s a great chance to connect, learn and share ideas with great minds from some of the sector’s finest digital businesses, in a completely confidential setting.

The events are hosted by Alex Cowell, MD, MBA and Jason Woodford, CEO, Site Visibility and here Alex gives an overview of the conversation at the last dinner and all of the information you need to know if you’d like to come along to future events.

Digital Skills Summit: Reflections & Highlights ...
Last month we held The Digital Skills Summit– a practical and discussion-led event, which brought together digital businesses and skills providers to explore how best we can address and overcome skills gaps within our sector.

At the event our keynote speaker, Dr Kion Ahadi (Creative Skillset,) shared insights and we heard a series of fantastic lightning talks from businesses describing their innovative approaches to recruiting, training and retaining staff.

We had a great turnout and the event was a huge success. If you missed out on any of the discussions, don't worry, we’ve gathered plenty of resources and content from the day, which you can check out here.

Are you a freelancer?
If so, here’s how we can help you grow your business.

With an expanding membership base of 448 freelancers (not including the many ‘freelancers with a brand’ who’re registered as companies) we thought it would be worthwhile to run through the specific benefits of Wired Sussex membership that can help you to grow and develop your business.

How to start up a start-up: what you need to know
We recently invited start-up businesses to our breakfast drop-in on “Start-up Essentials”. The drop-ins gave start-ups the professional advice they need to get going with their new businesses. Three expert advisers offered tailored guidance in key areas for starting a new business: accounts, copyright, business leads, funding opportunities to name a few.

The feedback from our team of advisers revealed that there are some questions that are universal to all start-ups. We’ve complied these frequently asked questions on our blog. If you’re starting up why not take a look, it’s a great way to make sure you’ve thought about all those start-up essentials.

Latest short-term work & project opportunities
A significant benefit of Wired Sussex membership is getting to hear about the latest fixed-term and project work opportunities within the sector, either by networking with other members or by accessing our exclusive projects board.

Anyone - from local boutiques to multinational agencies - can post project details on the board so the projects range greatly, with everything from product photography to e-Commerce platforms builds. However, what they all have in common is a need for digital and media experts. To access the details of each project you must be a Wired Sussex member.

Here’s a couple of the latest: Don’t forget you can add your own Project to our board free of charge!

Whether you need an agency to design and develop a website, a freelancer to work on a short term project, or even a business partner for a new venture?  We can help so get in touch!
