Channel 4 came to Brighton to host an informative 'Fuel4' event that got together TV and digital companies to discuss the use and development of social media in broadcast.
...and Studio AM have worked on designs for the new London cable car.

Lastly huge congratulations to joint winners Danny Daley and Alena Ruprecht of the Wired Sussex prize for best final year digital media project by a University of Brighton student.  We hear they are already set to move on to great things...

We’re looking forward to the next Wired Sussex Brighton members’ meetup on Tuesday 21st August from 5.30pm onwards at Above Audio.  Meeting other members and talking to Wired Sussex about what your company needs is one of the best ways of getting the most out of your membership.  The event is open to all Wired Sussex members and that means any employees of Wired Sussex member companies, so feel free to spread the word amongst colleagues.  The event is free to attend but please register here to guarantee your place.

Lobbying for our Members

One of our core aims is to work to support the creation of a better climate for member companies and freelancers to do business in – to assist our members collectively as well as individually. To do this, we spend time explaining our members’ needs to local and national government departments who have the resources to improve business infrastructure, we talk to those from other countries interested in engaging with the sector, we meet with banks, skills providers, universities and others. I thought it might be worth going a brief outline of just some of those with whom I have been meeting recently and why. Link to blog here

Wired Sussex’ Events at Brighton Digital Festival

We are planning a bunch of great events for Brighton Digital Festival in September. Here are a few highlights:

On Tuesday 11th September, Tales of the Creative City: What Brighton Fuse might be telling us about the future of the CDIT sector will be taking place at the Sallis Benney Theatre.  Early findings, thoughts, stories and information from the Brighton Fuse research project will be presented at this event which we are sure will shed new light on the nature of the creative, digital and tech sector in Brighton and Hove. Places are being set aside for CEOs and MDs of Brighton digital companies who have completed the Brighton Fuse questionnaire. Representatives from Brighton Fuse supporters BBC, Channel 4 and Sky will be there providing some great networking opportunities. Wednesday 19th September will see the launch of The Cherokee Nation Project at the Sallis Benney Theatre.  The Cherokee Nation Project is a digital cultural exchange between school students in Brighton, UK and Cherokee school students in Oklahoma, USA.  You can read more about the Cherokee Nation Project here.
Following the first Connected TV Brighton meetup in July, Wired Sussex are organising a Connected TV Brighton mini-conference.  There will be speakers on a range of subject including social TV, gamification, TV apps, internet enabled TVs and the future of this convergence.    Pencil in the date of Friday 21st September from 12.30pm – 5.30pm, an invitation and more information will be sent out to all members for this free event in due course.
At Wired Sussex Home Brewed: In conversation with social business advocate Will McInnes, Will McInnes, founder of social business consultancy Nixon McInnes, will be talking about his new book Culture Shock, which provides an inspirational guide for better ways to do business in the 21st century.  With a wealth of experience and knowledge in the Brighton digital sector as well as within business, Will believes that Brighton’s business community can lead the world not only in what they do but how they approach business in the 21st century.  Spaces are limited so hurry, find out more info and sign up here.
We will be running Open Studios 2012 from Monday 24 – Friday 28 September as a showcase for what our members do here in Brighton.  Participating companies will open their doors to potential employees, interested freelancers and would-be and actual clients alike.  Companies can choose who their event is for, whether they will hold talks, seminars or workshops; how they book people in, how long they keep people there.  If you’d like to get involved but aren’t quite sure what to do or how to do it, sign up and to come along to our Open Studios meetup on Wednesday 1 August, 4pm – 5.30pm at Brighton Media Centre.

Au'Guest' featured blog month

Last year we ran a group of guest blog posts for the month of August which gained a lot of attention and comments bringing the community together.  This year we will be doing the same again and featuring stories from the talent within our sector.

Featured Event: Meaning Conference

Meaning conference is an annual gathering for people who believe business can and must be better in the 21st century.

Taking place on the 1st October, at The Brighton Dome Corn Exchange, the purpose of Meaning is to build awareness and community around the practical possibilities of progressive business so that the world becomes a better place.  Speakers are international thinkers and doers from business, academia and activism, each bringing their view of the challenges and opportunities available to us.  They include Caroline Lucas, leader of the Green Party and Stowe Boyd, futurist and researcher.
