The first shout-out this month goes to Oliver & Graimes who kicked off the year with the acquisition of branding agency VGROUP!
Big congratulations to Plug-in Media; they picked up their fourth BAFTA for their ‘Get Well Soon Hospital’ app!
Always great to see our members collaborating; Buff Motion recently created an animated overview of Elucidat’s eLearning authoring software. Designate, whose work for Brittany Ferries’ ‘For Anyone’ campaign launched over Christmas, with Progress Film Co shooting the TV and cinema ads. The Security Bureau revealed their fresh new look by VGROUP, encapsulating the security specialists’ core values, and also started the year with the introduction of their new service, Informer! Brightshade’s Ben Bennett and Pixel by Pixel’s Chris Painter joined forces to launch Omnitude, a blockchain smart platform.
Huge news from Caraline Brown who, after 23-years as Midnight Communications’ Managing Director, has sold the PR company to two members of the Midnight management team.
‘Dark, eerie and memorable’Bozboz’s dystopian ‘Cyborg Creep’ design won Campaign Magazine’s global Cover Hack competition.
Wonderful branding work by Very Own Studio for Plastic Free Pledge! They created an abstract and ingenious identity for the international movement.
Exciting times for Hanna Smith; the former HR Director at Madgex launched her own business Empowered People HR with a special introductory offer for Wired Sussex members!
Curate LabsWandering Through New York city guide was one of Readymag’s top 7 best editorials of 2017 – nice one!
High five to digital marketing agency The Converts; they recently launched their website!
Buff Motion also worked on the new ‘Get Lifesaver Ready’ animations for UK charity Anthony Nolan.
Looking forward to getting our hands on Curiscope’s latest VR experience; an educational, underwater exploration game called ‘Operation Apex’.
Good times for Neujuice Design, they developed a new brand identity for the online marketplace, Maistro PLC.
And finally, animator Nick Murray Willis produced a video for Oxford Dictionaries’ 'Word of the Year 2017', youthquake.

Wired Sussex Members’ Spring Meetup

It’s that time of year already - registration is now open for our spring Members’ Meetup! Let's get Brighton's digital tech sector talked about!
Tech City are mapping the UK’s digital ecosystem, which will be collated into a report for Ministers, called Tech Nation 2018. Having Brighton & Hove included is an opportunity to shout about our local cluster and help drive exposure, talent, investment and client interest in the region.

If you have 10 minutes to spare, it would be great if you could take part! The deadline for participation is tomorrow, Friday 2nd February.


A discussion on diversity in the digital sector
Thursday 22nd February, 9-11am at The FuseBox
Our next Breakfast Session will be a special roundtable discussion on diversity in the workplace. We have some fantastic speakers helping facilitate the discussion: Claire Hopkins (Founding Director of Ideal), Ray Richards (Co-Founder of Do Something Different) and Lucy Rennison, (HR Manager at Fresh Egg) who will be sharing advice, case studies and strategies for improvement.

And we encourage you to join the debate, bringing your own ideas and experiences to the table. So, If you’re interested in tackling issues of diversity in the workplace, responsible for HR or just want to build the best team possible - join the discussion!


GDPR Compliance: An Opportunity for Business Development
Last month, we held a Breakfast Session on GDPR and the opportunities it presents for business development; where a panel of experts, Scott Appleton (Moore Law), Simon Cooke (Pragmatic) and Morgan McCarthy (CDO Partners), answered questions and shared their knowledge with the room.

Digi Drop-in: Is Quantum Computing the Next Big Thing?
Friday 16th February, 9-11am at The FuseBox

Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionise technology; using new approaches to processing data through subatomic particles to deliver computational power a million times faster and more energy efficient than a conventional computer. There are only a handful of large-scale quantum computers in the world, and one of them is being built at the University of Sussex, in Brighton.

At this Digi Drop-in, we’ll be joined by senior quantum Scientist Sebastian Weidt to shed some light on how these incredible machines work. If you would like to explore quantum technology with us, grab a ticket!


Save the date: Talent2018
Following the success of last year, we’re delighted to announce the dates for this year’s Talent2018 Festival. This 3-day event starts on the 5th June with the Jobs Fair: the largest digital careers fair in the South; the Skills Summit on 6th June, a conference for digital businesses to attract and retain the best people; plus, the Experience Day on 7th June for young people to get an insight to the digital industry.

A beginner’s guide to Blockchain App Development
Monday 19th March, 5:45-9:15pm at The FuseBox

The prolific rise in the value of cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, has led to increasing awareness of their underlying technology – blockchains. Blockchain applications offer trusted collaboration for cryptocurrency - confidentiality, integrity, authenticity and validity without relying upon a central authority - however there are very few tutorials on how to develop such applications.

At this event, we will demystify blockchain-based development and teach you how to create your own distributed applications (dApps) for blockchains. Interested? Come along!

The Wired Sussex team is growing!
This month, we welcomed a few new additions to the team and we wanted to introduce them to you: James, our new Skills & Talent Manager will be working to develop initiatives to advance the local digital skills agenda. Helle will be taking over as Head of Projects whilst Rebecca is on maternity leave. And most recently, Rifa has joined as our Festival Producer, coordinating and delivering our upcoming Talent2018 festival.

We’re also currently on the search for an Events Coordinator, so if you’d like to help us run events for the digital sector, get in touch!
