Tech City are mapping the UK’s digital ecosystem, which will be collated into a report for Ministers, called Tech Nation 2018. Having Brighton & Hove included is an opportunity to shout about our local cluster and help drive exposure, talent, investment and client interest in the region.

Our next Breakfast Session will be a special roundtable discussion on diversity in the workplace. We have some fantastic speakers helping facilitate the discussion: Claire Hopkins (Founding Director of Ideal), Ray Richards (Co-Founder of Do Something Different) and Lucy Rennison, (HR Manager at Fresh Egg) who will be sharing advice, case studies and strategies for improvement.

GDPR Compliance: An Opportunity for Business Development
Last month, we held a Breakfast Session on GDPR and the opportunities it presents for business development; where a panel of experts, Scott Appleton (Moore Law), Simon Cooke (Pragmatic) and Morgan McCarthy (CDO Partners), answered questions and shared their knowledge with the room.

Digi Drop-in: Is Quantum Computing the Next Big Thing?
Friday 16th February, 9-11am at The FuseBox
Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionise technology; using new approaches to processing data through subatomic particles to deliver computational power a million times faster and more energy efficient than a conventional computer. There are only a handful of large-scale quantum computers in the world, and one of them is being built at the University of Sussex, in Brighton.
At this Digi Drop-in, we’ll be joined by senior quantum Scientist Sebastian Weidt to shed some light on how these incredible machines work. If you would like to explore quantum technology with us, grab a ticket!

Following the success of last year, we’re delighted to announce the dates for this year’s Talent2018 Festival. This 3-day event starts on the 5th June with the Jobs Fair: the largest digital careers fair in the South; the Skills Summit on 6th June, a conference for digital businesses to attract and retain the best people; plus, the Experience Day on 7th June for young people to get an insight to the digital industry.

A beginner’s guide to Blockchain App Development

The prolific rise in the value of cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, has led to increasing awareness of their underlying technology – blockchains. Blockchain applications offer trusted collaboration for cryptocurrency - confidentiality, integrity, authenticity and validity without relying upon a central authority - however there are very few tutorials on how to develop such applications.

This month, we welcomed a few new additions to the team and we wanted to introduce them to you: James, our new Skills & Talent Manager will be working to develop initiatives to advance the local digital skills agenda. Helle will be taking over as Head of Projects whilst Rebecca is on maternity leave. And most recently, Rifa has joined as our Festival Producer, coordinating and delivering our upcoming Talent2018 festival.
