Very Happy New Year to all from Wired Towers! Special congrats to those of you who came up trumps in the awards season towards the end of last year – especially to Relentless for winning the Creative Industries award at the BAHBAs, and to Qualifa, Pegasus PR and Content Consultants for winning the Most Promising New Business, Best Employer in Sussex, and Innovation in Business Awards respectively at the Sussex Business Awards. Elsewhere Clearleft scooped .net magazine’s agency of the year award, and Man Bites Dog won both campaign and PR agency of the year at the btb marketing awards. Nice work all!

We're excited to see some ambitious startups coming through recently, such as Brilliant Noise, part-founded by Anthony Mayfield, and also Gobo Games, Roudcube Entertainment, ShortRound Games and Westpier Studio, all formed out of the closing down of Disney's Black Rock. Finally, we'd like to extend a warm Brighton welcome to Fortune Cookie, the leading international full-service agency who have chosen to open another base in Brighton.

Here’s to a happy and prosperous 2012 for all!

Brighton wins tv license bid
brighton

Great news for Brighton as the secretary of state last month announced that the city is one of 20 areas in the country to receive a license for a local tv station.

We supported Latest TV with the bid because we strongly felt that the project would directly benefit both those hoping to make a career in the media industry, and the city itself to develop its expertise in convergent media; you can read more about that here .

We’ll keep you posted as this exciting project develops further..

Digital in education: Smartphones and a smart exchange
Donate your phone Click to find out more

You might remember a recent story we posted about donating your old unused smartphones for reuse by disadvantaged pupils in local schools. The project has generated a mixed bag of coverage locally – you can check that out here . We and the community group who instigated the project DEB really believe that your old phones can make a difference to local schools – so help us help them by dropping your phone into us here at WS towers in New England House. Check out the original blog post for more on why.

We’re also very proud to have been involved in the establishment of a digital cultural exchange between school students in Brighton from Cardinal Newman and Blatchington Mill schools and Sequoyah and Maryetta Native Amercian schools in Oklahoma, in the US. The project aims to use digital media to enhance the way typical school exchange schemes are run; we’ll be overseeing the project from the UK ably assisted by local e-learning company Epic. More on why here .
