What about freelancers? - Brighton Fuse Phase 2.
There can be few creative-digital professionals in the region that have not heard of the Brighton Fuse project. The research showed the first solid evidence of the astounding growth of the cluster and everyone - from Government ministers, to The Financial Times, to the World Economic Forum - sat up and paid attention. But some voices rightfully asked “what about the freelance sector?”

Well, phase two of the project sets out to address exactly that question, and we are reaching out to our freelance members and asking you to complete a short questionnaire, the anonymised data from this survey will form the backbone of the research.  We know that your time is valuable but by contributing to the survey you will help us get a clear idea of the needs and contributions of the sector, and raise the visibility of the entire cluster.

FuseBox Sessions
FuseBox Sessions #5, 16th July,6pm – 8pm at the FuseBox
The Fusebox Sessions are new, fortnightly events focussed on  ‘ideas you can use’, which we run as part of our FuseBox24 start-up programme. The events have loads of benefits- even if you aren't in the programme - so we’ve opened up the sessions, making them free of charge to Wired Sussex members.

Session#5 Biting the Bullet: Pivoting Relentless Software. Andy Eades will talk on how he built Brighton’s Relentless Software into a hugely successful games developer, how (and why) he then dramatically changed the focus of the business and what he learnt from the experience. If you have an interest in how and why businesses pivot, then this session is for you.
If you missed out on any of the previous sessions you can catch up here.

So why not come along and share your latest news, learn about potential joint working opportunities or just have a chat with other like-minded folk. It's all pretty informal!

Developing digital and data opportunities for the retail sector
Wired Sussex is working with Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership to look at digital, data and the retail space. We will be putting together a bid to create a series of activities to develop new ways that digital and data can support both a vibrant retail sector and new opportunities for the digital, media and tech cluster.
If your company is interested in being involved in this project in any way (including helping us frame the bid), please check out this blog post for more information.

Jobs Fair
At The Digital, Media & Tech Jobs Fair on 6th June, we heard from a series of industry insiders and experts who shared their knowledge and experience working in creative, digital and tech positions, offering advice and inspiration anyone looking to get into the sector, or to move on within the sector. If you couldn’t make it along to the event, or if you missed any of the talks, check out our YouTube channel for a selection of highlights from the day.

The event attracted over 1200 people and featured 35 exhibiting companies and there were opportunities across the board to help our members recruit or land a dream job. We gathered some really interesting jobs data on the day and are working on creating a useful infographic which we are really excited to share, so watch this space!
