Congratulations to Plugin Media who picked up another BAFTA this month, this time for their New Media project - Psychoville
 
Through their profile on the Wired Sussex Membership Directory, Big Man were contacted by Systagenix to produce work for them, which is leading the way with stylised CGI marketing for the medical sector. This project was featured in the June issue of Creative Review
 
Also, exciting news that Fruitmedia have opened their doors for you to hire their new green screen studio in New England House.
 
Tickets went on sale for the Brighton Digital Marketing Festival organised by Pure 360 which has a fantastic line-up again this year.
 
Finally a big ‘Well Done’ to all of our members who took part in the London to Brighton bike ride, and especially our very own Caroline Morris, who is in the middle of training for her Cycle 4 Cancer across Peru later in the year.


Brighton Digital Festival

We have some really good news regarding Brighton Digital Festival.  Many of you will know that Wired Sussex (together with Lighthouse) put in a bid some months ago to the Arts Council for funding to support the festival in 2012 and 2013. We have just heard that our bid has been successful and we can go on to support its future growth.

We think that our grant will enable us to provided much needed coordination and support to this year’s festival and knowing that we also have funding for next year will give us all the opportunity to enable us to work together to create a festival which has real international resonance and helps grow the reputation of our city for creativity and innovation.

But there is no festival to coordinate without the hard work, the energy and the enthusiasm of everybody who puts on the events themselves. So if you are putting on an event or are interested in talking about how to do so (or know someone who is), please submit your idea or get in touch to talk about it as soon as possible.  For more info about the funding and Brighton Digital Festival check out our blog


Sussex Business Awards launch

This month has also been the focus of the 2012 Sussex Business Awards where Wired Sussex attended the 3 launch events in Crawley, Eastbourne and Brighton as proud sponsors.  This year we're sponsoring and judging the award for 'The most awesome use of digital media' and have already met a couple of the companies who are entering. The deadline for entries is 31st August 2012 and there's a variety of awards up for grabs as well as the following awards which can be entered free of charge: Healthiest Workplace Award, The Greatest Contribution to Sussex Charity and nominate The Boss of the Year for free.  We hope to be judging you soon...

Improving Broadband for Business in Brighton

Wired Sussex‘s lobbying efforts to  improve broadband connectivity in Brighton and Hove for businesses continues apace. As some of you may know, we started the let Brighton bid campaign to encourage the Government to allow Brighton to access public funding for ultra fast broadband (UFB). In the last budget, the Treasury set aside funding specifically for “cities like Brighton” and we are now working with the local authority (with support from the local MPs) on a bid to that fund. The fund is enough for around 10 cities and there are 27 cities bidding, so competition is keen. If you are a company or freelancer whose business has suffered because of poor broadband provision in Brighton and Hove, please let us know (phil@wiredussex.com) as we are keen to build a legitimate evidence base to support our bid.

Connected TV Brighton

What are the challenges and opportunities arising through the bringing together television, Internet and gaming on the TV set?  What are the consumer demands and how can our members maximise opportunities presented from this convergence?  What are the key technologies that will drive this market?
 
With members in such a variety of industry specialisms, and with so many technical advances and development opportunities available within the area of Connected TV, it seems only fitting that Wired Sussex facilitate and form a ‘Connected TV Brighton’ group.
 
We would like to hear your thoughts on Connected TV, what it means for your business, what topics you would like to hear about or discuss and what you think the next steps are for Connected TV.  So, we would like to invite you, our members, from all industry sectors to get involved and come along to the inaugural Connected TV Brighton meetup on Tuesday 31 July from 6.30pm at The Skiff, Brighton.  It’s free to come along but please register here to guarantee your place.

Brighton Fuse

The Brighton Fuse questionnaire has now been live for two weeks! We have been busy promoting the questionnaire to the creative, digital and IT community (CDIT) in Brighton and Hove. We have had a consistent flow of responses from the Wired Sussex membership, however, we would really like to see the number of completed questionnaires increase. The more data we can collect from  your  community, the better the long term outcome will be for Brighton. Please do take the time to complete the survey before 6 July 2012.

In addition to the questionnaire going live, we have posted regular blog updates from the projects contributors on topics such as why the questionnaire is really, really important; the recipe for a creative and digital city and the reasons why the research team decided to ask the questions in the survey.

As always, we  have been actively communicating project updates  via our social media channels and welcome any discussion from our members about the questionnaire or any other Brighton Fuse related matters.

For those members who have already completed the questionnaire, we look forward to seeing you at our special event at the Brighton Digital Festival in September.

Upcoming events

Thanks to all those who came along to our members’ meetup last month at Above Audio!  We had a record turnout and it was great to catch up with over 100 of our members.  Pencil in the date of the 21st August for the next meetup, an invitation will be sent out to you soon.
