ACE Funding news for Brighton Digital Festival 2014!
Last week we received confirmation that the funding bid we led to Arts Council England (ACE) for Brighton Digital Festival 2014 and 2015 had been successful!
£173,000 has been secured to support the festival over the next two years which, in addition to sponsorship already kindly confirmed by Brandwatch and Pure360, will help to deliver an exciting programme of conferences, exhibitions, installations, workshops, outdoor events and meet-ups.

The festival runs throughout September and takes place all across Brighton, it is a huge celebration of digital culture.  Last year’s festival saw over 170 events and was attended by over 40,000 people – making it the fastest growing festival of its kind in the country!

The ACE funding will be used to support the Festival’s management, coordination and marketing in 2014 and 2015. As well the appointment of a new Festival Director for the next two years (details about the vacancy here), the money will support the Grassroots Fund, which awards grants for projects that utilise and connect art with design and technology. More details about the call for applications and deadlines will be announced soon.

FuseBox Sessions
FuseBox Sessions #1, 21st May, 6pm – 8pm at the FuseBox
The Fusebox Sessions are new fortnightly events based around the theme of ‘ideas you can use’, which we are running as part of our FuseBox24 start-up programme. We think they have a lot to offer people outside the programme too, so we’ve made the sessions open and free of charge to Wired Sussex members.

Session#1 will be a talk by Tom Nixon, founder of Nixon McInnes, a strategic consultancy agency that works with major blue chip brands. He will be talking about the relationship between his beliefs and his business and what NixonMcInnes stands for and why.

So, if you are an entrepreneur who wants to create a business with meaning or simply interested in Tom’s story, then you can find out more about the event and register to attend at this first FuseBox Session.

Full Steam Ahead for the Intern Placement Programme
In March we launched our latest paid intern programme and already we’ve received nearly 500 applications for a broad range of 160 exciting roles in (CDIT) digital, media and tech companies.  With 23 top calibre interns having already started their placements, the scheme has certainly got off to a brilliant start and we’re sure there will be lots of success stories to come.

Not surprisingly, we’re finding that there’s a huge demand from our members to take on a part-funded intern and if you’d like to add your name to our waiting list please register online.

Also, if you are looking for paid work experience in the sector, don’t miss out on the great roles currently being advertised

Funding to improve your Broadband
This month the Connection Voucher Scheme launched to provide funding up to £3,000 (excluding VAT) for small businesses, charities and voluntary organisations to access faster broadband connection speeds.

Take a look at the press release on the Brighton and Hove Council website to see if you’re eligible to benefit.

Latest short-term work & project opportunities
A significant benefit of Wired Sussex membership is getting to hear about the latest fixed-term and project work opportunities within the sector, either by networking with other members or by accessing our exclusive projects board.

Anyone - from local boutiques to multinational agencies - can post project details on the board so the projects range greatly, with everything from product photography to e-Commerce platforms builds. However, what they all have in common is a need for help from digital and media experts. To access the details of each project you must be a Wired Sussex member.

Here’s a couple of the latest: Don’t forget you can add your own Project to our board free of charge!

Whether you need an agency to design and develop a website, a freelancer to work on a short term project, or even a business partner for a new venture?  We can help so get in touch!
