29th June 2018
Duke of York’s Picturehouse, Brighton

Next month Brighton will see the return of Ampersand conference, the web typography conference founded and curated by Richard Rutter, author of Web Typography and Co-founder of Clearleft.

Clearleft are offering Wired Sussex members an exclusive 25% discount on tickets with the code AMPWS25.

Ampersand brings together global experts from all aspects of web typography, including big names in branding and editorial design, visual designers, web developers, browser makers, and type designers.

In response to the challenges web designers and developers face in creating websites with expressive and accessible typography that perform well across all devices, Ampersand will give attendees the full picture of what typography can and should be on the web today.

Speakers at the conference, which will be held on 29th June at Brighton’s iconic Duke of York’s Picturehouse, include the likes of Michael Johnson, Bianca Berning, Mark Porter and Jen Simmons.

Ampersand was first held in Brighton in 2011, and was the first event to put type designers and web designers on the same stage following the advent of web fonts. Since then it has been run every few years including a fantastic show in the Times Center in New York in 2013.

Richard Rutter, Ampersand curator, says:
“We’ve taken a little break since the last event in 2015, mostly so I could write my book Web Typography. Lots has happened in the world of web typography since then, not least of which is the arrival of variable fonts which will make an appearance in some of the talks.”

Connect to the event, Richard Rutter will be running a Responsive Web Typography workshop on Thursday 28th June (tickets to which include entry to the main conference on 29th June).
